FAQ's Tryouts
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to pre-register?
No, you may register the day of but you must bring registration forms
(signed), and fees with you to the tryout.  By signing up in advance you make
sure your name, information, shirt number are in the hands of the coaches in
advance and not penciled in day of.
How many tryouts do I need to attend?
You must only attend one tryout date to be considered for the program,
however you may attend as many as you'd like.  Keep in mind that if you wait
until the last tryout date and weather becomes a factor that could hurt your
chances.
I am going into my Freshman/Sophomore year, should I tryout?
It is not impossible for a younger player to make the program, however it will
be very difficult.  Worst case as an underclassmen you come out, see where
you stand, get a shirt, and know what to expect for next season.
I sent in my registration form weeks ago, now what?
Check your email spam filters, confirmation email's have been sent out.  If
you did not provide an email, or it could not be read off your registration form,
you may email info@nhbaseball.org or show up at tryouts early to clear up
the situation.
Players are expected to be at EVERY game.  If you know in advance that you
will miss more than one you should not tryout for the program.  Unexcused
absences could result in removal from the program.  Practices are option but
to be at your best on Saturday's you should try your best to attend practice.
Can we use our aluminum bats?
No, this is a wood bat league.  No aluminum bats are permitted at games or
at practice.  Leave them at home.
How are the teams selected?
The GSBA will select the top 60 players based on tryouts.  We will do the best
to group the players together based on regional location.  For example if you
live in Dover, NH we will try to group you with the other seacoast players so
you can share rides, and be close to practices.  If one team has three good
catchers and one team has zero moves will have to be made to even out the
teams.
What about rain?
Games are on Saturday's so that we can keep Sunday's as possible rain
dates.  However some schools may not have the rain date available.  We will
do our best to make up all games but there can be no guarantee.
Is there a minimum promised playing time per player?
For the regular season games each coach is tasked with doing his best to
make sure that any player who is just a pitcher sees at least 2 innings of
work.  Offensive players at least 2 plate appearances.  If a pitcher is not
having success they will not be left on the field to reach the minimum.  If for
some reason (circumstances of the game) a batter doesn't get two plate
appearances coaches will do their best to make it up at a later game.  For
NH Fall Classic, no promises are made.  Games will be managed as
competitively as possible.
Who will be playing in the New Hampshire vs. Maine game on Columbus
Day?
Players will be invited to this game during the course of the season.  Players
must be sure they do not have school on Columbus Day as some schools
will be in session.
Can I also play in the GSBA varsity division?
Yes, many players will do both.  However in case of a rain date moving to a
Sunday you will be expected to make the Showcase League your priority.
Other than the shirt and hat provided, what is the dress code?
Grey baseball pants (no piping or pinstripes!), team color socks, and belt.
This is expected from game 1, no excuses.
How will changes in the schedule, cancellations, and information be
communicated?
E-mail and website.  We can not call or chase down every player or parent.
Group email's and website notices will be posted.  Phone numbers of
coaches and staff will be provided.
